One day, while cutting a tree near a river, his axe slipped from his grip and fell into the water. Because the water was so deep, he couldn’t envision retrieving it on his own. He only had one axe, which he’d dropped in the river.

He prayed to the Goddess because he was unhappy. the Goddess came in front of him after he prayed earnestly and Goddess say “What is the trouble, my son?“. The woodcutter described the situation to the Goddess and asked for his axe back.

“Is this your axe?” the Goddess said as she reached down into the water and pulled out a silver axe.

“No,” the Woodcutter answered, looking at the axe.

So the Goddess reached back into the water and pulled out a golden axe, asking, “Is this your axe?”

“No,” the woodcutter answered, looking at the axe. “Take another look, Son, this is a very valuable golden axe, are you sure this is not yours?” the Goddess asked.

“No, it’s not mine,” the woodcutter replied. With a golden axe, I can’t cut down the trees. It is no benefit to me.”

“Is this your axe?” the Goddess said as she dipped her hand back into the water and brought out his iron axe.

“Yes!” replied the woodcutter. It’s all mine! Thank you very much!” The Goddess was so taken aback by his honesty that she rewarded him with his iron axe and two extra axes.
